In an attempt to have a reasonable discussion which has probably been had somewhere else also.
Doesnt it depend on how the items are priced though?
With the Aurum CCP could have the item that is sold compete with higher priced items that depend less or not at all on player driven industry. Examples are faction ammo and the Machariel.
For example the gold ammo. CCP could price this to always be overprices so it would compete with the high priced faction ammo only.
Question is would that also be a problem?

Tippia, I agree every mt item that takes activity out of the game is a step too far. Just because it is a sandbox the more varied the activity the better. And every lp grinding mission runner is a possible pvp encounter.
But that does take us back to PLEX. They do the same.
The question is would players that play by selling PLEX for isk have played the game at all?

Maybe the question is is PLEX already a step too far?

Another question is if there was no PLEX how much emptier would EVE be because there is a part of the players that would not play this game if there were no PLEX.
Less players mean less market transaction meaning less gameplay.

Thanks guys for helping me get off the fence.
I think actually that PLEX sold for real money is a step to far. You should still be able to buy PLEX for isk though maybe as an LP store item.
And to be honest I think the entire NEX store is a step too far. Vanity items are going to be a very big part of game play in Incarna and should only reflect your position in the game not something else.

That second player then goes and buys items to make another ship or buys another ship to trade. Those other players then benefit with ISK. They all go buy time codes.
MT:
First player spends real money to buy a ship and weapons. That player could put those on the market (for a ridiculous sum of money) but he doesn't because he bought them to actually use. He didn't want to do it but everyone else is already doing it so to compete he has to do it too. That player then flies the ship out gets it destroyed. He's out real money and no one else really benefitted from it. Whatever loot the opposing player obtained from the wreck he uses or gives to his buddies. No one benefitted. i.e. the game does not matter other than the pvp encounter. THAT IS NOT WHAT EVE IS OR HAS BEEN!
They are both bad. The problem with MT is that it has additional problems by messing with the market directly.
Every item or isk bought for real life money subtracts life from the game.

Quote: The main complaint is that nothing produced in game will be consumed in getting the new items for AUR and there's fear about simply paying real money for a huge gameplay advantage.
If you expand the meaning of "consumed" to mean the game itself, as in time spend in the game then the problem is expanded to include the PLEX and then it doesnt matter if you add a base item. You obtain value out of thin air.

Every time you buy something in game with real money whether it is isk or clothes you take away a player experience.
Take the Gold ammo. Let say it is priced to compete with the the expensive faction ammo. First you enable the possibility of a price crash due to the fact that you can buy unlimited amounts of it out of thin air. But more importantly you take away the guy doing the exploration site in 0.0.
This guy or girl is the same person that was in the butterfly effect video.

Kate Rygelm, I couldnt agree more. As a matter of fact I am going to stop buying PLEX with isk to extend my subscription.
I wonder what would happen if everybody would stop buying PLEX with isk.
BTW There should be an option to buy PLEX with isk that didnt come from player.

There is very little difference between PLEX and AUR as far as I can see.
The thing is most people are clueless as I was a couple of ours ago. They dont understand how stuff really works and in most cases like mine people dont bother to dig a little deeper.
In fact with Incarna I think CCP might be breaking their own game before it even came out. Because its focus, from what we know so far which is not a lot, is so much on social interaction how you look is half the game.

Quote: It completely bypasses and marginalizes existing game content.
PLEX does this also just the effect is spread across the entire economy and game.
